Getting onto the water
Regular ferries leave from Olhão's waterfront to Armona, Culatra and Farol, while traditional boatmen run flexible charters from Faro's old-town quay. A full-day private trip costs roughly the same as two restaurant dinners and buys you a schedule made entirely of whim.
Farol & Culatra
Car-free Culatra splits into a fishing hamlet and an ocean beach linked by boardwalks; order grilled catch at one of the two quayside cafés. Neighbouring Farol island circles a working lighthouse with the clearest swimming water on the entire lagoon.
