The Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos is the Algarve's signature hike: 5.7 kilometres of clifftop path linking hidden beaches, natural arches and viewpoints that drop your stomach into turquoise water far below.
Route & direction
Most walkers start at Praia do Vale de Centeanes near Carvoeiro and finish at the Marinha lighthouse, finishing with the beach's postcard view rather than facing away from it. Allow three hours with photo stops; the trail is officially moderate, with some uneven limestone sections where good footwear matters.
What to bring
Water (there is one café mid-route at Alfanzina), sun protection — there is almost no shade on the cliffs — and a windproof layer outside high summer. Early morning light turns the cliffs amber and gives you the trail nearly to yourself.
Highlights along the way
Do not miss the Alfanzina lighthouse, the natural arch at Vale Benagil viewpoint, and the short detour down to Praia do Carvalho through its hand-carved rock staircase. If you have energy left, continue on the Marinha boardwalk loop for the classic twin-cliff panorama.
